Multifunctional body structures: Optimization for resource efficient vehicle concepts

Co-financed project: EU-project PIVOT 90% funding, ECO2 funding 10% funding
PhD student: Johan Larssson
Start: 2018

The project investigates the possibility of designing vehicle components with combined performance towards multiple different functional requirements. The goal is to develop tools to design components that solves all functional requirements at once instead of solving them in a sequential manner by adding different subsystems. The goal is to reduce mass and cost of components by reducing the number of subsystems within them. For this there is a need for the development of optimization tools to aid in the design of multi-functional components as well to investigate how conflicting constraints related to multiple fields of physics can be accounted for in topology optimization.
