Organising research towards resource efficient vehicles
ECO2's vision challenges traditional ways of designing vehicles. This is because when considering the wider vehicles-transport system, there will innevitably be complexity involved. This means that the problem cannot always be divided into subproblems to be solved in isolation, as in traditonal reductionist approaches. Such an approach could potentially lead to rebound effects, which act counter to the desired outcome. So new ways of working are needed that maintain progress towards the overall desired outcome. ECO2 recognises this as a central challenge as we work towards resources efficient vehicles in a sustainable society.
In ECO2 the projects have been clustered with this in mind. While not everything can considered at once, the different clusters take different perspectives to focus on while still trying to see the bigger picture. Listen to Ciarán O'Reilly describe some more about this in the video below.
